The group consisted of six childhood friends who drifted apart after Meiko "Menma" Honma died in an accident. Five years later, Menma's ghost appeared to Jinta Yadomi, asking him to grant her wish so she could pass on. He gathered the estranged friends together, believing they were the key to solving the problem. Although most joined reluctantly and initially believed Jinta was hallucinating because they could not see or hear Menma, the group eventually reunited. They struggled with accusations that Jinta had not moved on from Menma's death and grappled with long-hidden feelings and shared guilt regarding her demise.

In Their Own Story

In Chichibu, Saitama, Jinta Yadomi lived as a recluse five years after Meiko "Menma" Honma's accidental death. One summer day, the ghost of an older-looking Menma appeared beside him, asking for a wish to be granted so she could pass on. Since Menma did not remember her own wish, Jinta gathered his estranged friends—Naruko, Atsumu, Chiriko, and Tetsudo—to help. Though they initially thought he was hallucinating because they could not see or hear her, Menma showed her presence to prove she was real. The group eventually joined him to help fulfill the wish, confronting their guilt and rekindled feelings along the way.

Reader's Guide

The Super Peace Busters were led by Jinta "Jintan" Yadomi before his withdrawal from society following Meiko's death. The group included Naruko "Anaru" Anjo, Atsumu "Yukiatsu" Matsuyuki, Chiriko "Tsuruko" Tsurumi, and Tetsudo "Poppo" Hisakawa. Jinta initially dismissed Menma as a hallucination but gathered the others when she could not recall her wish. The friends struggled with guilt over the accident; Atsumu secretly dressed as Menma's ghost, while Naruko held jealousy toward Jinta's attachment to Menma's memory. They eventually united at their secret base to help Menma move on and began to heal from their shared trauma.
